Early Years (1969-1972)
The Blazer was originally a short wheelbase truck that went into production in 1969. It had four engine options and three transmission options, with a wheelbase around 104 inches. The shortened pickup design allowed for more interior space, yet it also made the Blazer more affordable. By 1970, the Blazer outsold its rivals handily, and it expanded to include a convertible version and two-wheel drive option.
Middle Years (1973-1994)
The second generation of Blazers was introduced for the 1973 model year, available with one-, two-, or five-passenger cabins. The second-gen Blazer was perfect for handling winter driving, dirt trails, and more thanks to its tall ride height, wide stance, capable 4x4 design, and intelligent transfer cases. By the 1980s the Blazer had a sleeker look and more options, including an available diesel engine. From 1983-94, the Blazer branched out to a smaller class with the S-10 Blazer, which helped launch the popular TrailBlazer badge. The third-generation Blazer launched in 1992 and lasted through 1994.
Final Years (1995-2005)
The full-size Blazer was replaced in the lineup by the Tahoe in 1995, relegating the Blazer name to its smaller counterpart. It remained a popular option for the decade to follow thanks to, among other things, the addition of a ZR2 package for off-roading and Blazer Xtreme trim for on-road and on-track performance. Ultimately, the Blazer left the lineup in 2005.
